Self-medication of patients using immunosuppressants
Zouharová, Veronika ; Malý, Josef (advisor) ; Babica, Jan (referee)
Self-medication of patients using immunosuppressive drugs Author: Veronika Zouharová Tutor: doc. PharmDr. Josef Malý, Ph.D. Consultant: PharmDr. Barbora Košťálová, Ph.D. Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy, in Hradec Králové, Charles University Introduction and aims: Self-medication can be used to treat minor health problems without consulting a doctor. The aim of this masters thesis was to analyse the use of potentially risky over- the-counter medicines, dietary supplements or food in patients with a history of kidney disease taking immunosuppressants. Methods: Data for the cross-sectional study were obtained in the form of a controlled interview with patients of the Nephrology Consultation of the Teaching Hospital Hradec Králové. The guided interview was carried out by the researcher in the form of phone calls with patients in March 2022 through a structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was compiled on basis of a literature search and knowledge gained about possible interactions between immunosuppressants and over-the- counter medicinal products, dietary supplements and food. Patients with kidney disease who had been taking at least one immunosuppressant (cyclosporine, azathioprine, mycophenolate, prednisone, tacrolimus or rituximab) for past six months were...
Risk of skin cancer and lymphoproliferative diseases in patients after kidney transplantation
Sidorová, Kristína ; Malý, Josef (advisor) ; Matoulková, Petra (referee)
Risk of skin cancer and lymphoproliferative diseases in patients after kidney transplantation Author: Kristína Sidorová Tutor: doc. PharmDr. Josef Malý, Ph.D. Consultant: Mgr. Barbora Vaňková Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové, Charles University Introduction and aims: Organ transplantations (Tx) are associated with the lifelong use of immunosuppressive therapy (IS), which carries with it, among other risks, an increased incidence of malignancies. The most common malignancies after Tx are skin tumors, post-transplant lymphoproliferative diseases (PTLD) are also more common in transplant patients. The aim of the study was to determine the incidence of skin tumors and PTLD in patients with kidney Tx within one transplant center and to analyze the risk factors associated with these diseases. Methods: Retrospective longitudinal study was conduted in the Teaching Hospital Hradec Králové. The study included patients from the age of 18 who had overcome kidney Tx until 24 April 2019, were registered in a transplant clinic in Hradec Králové and had a medical record in the hospital information system. Data collection from medical records took place from 15 April 2019 to 31 December 2019. Collected data included demographic characteristics, family history,...
Photoprotection in patients after kidney transplantation
Hajšelová, Zuzana ; Malý, Josef (advisor) ; Kolmanová, Eliška (referee)
Photoprotection in Patients after Kidney Transplantation Author: Zuzana Hajšelová Tutor: doc. PharmDr. Josef Malý, PhD. Consultant: Mgr. Barbora Vaňková Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradci Králové, Charles University Introduction and aims: Patients after kidney transplantation (KT) are in a higher risk of developing skin cancer as a result of lifelong immunosuppressive (IS) therapy. Thorough photoprotection is therefore recommended. The aim of this study was to determine patients' awareness and level of photoprotection and to analyse selected risk factors for skin cancer development in patients after KT. Methods: The cross-sectional study was undertaken from 15th April to 31st December 2019 at the Haemodialysis Centre in the Teaching Hospital Hradec Králové. Patients included in this study were above 18 years old, who visited Haemodialysis Centre in the defined period. The data was collected from the patients' medical documentation (e.g. occurrence of skin cancer and skin cancer type, current IS) and from the written version of questionnaires (e.g. phototype, sun exposure, photoprotection). The data was analysed using descriptive statistics. Results: There were 410 KT patients in regular care of the Haemodialysis Centre, 361 fulfilled the questionnaire (88.0...

Post-operative care of the patient after kidney transplant
Rebcová, Adéla ; Kordulová, Pavla (advisor) ; Chvojková, Kateřina (referee)
(v AJ) Transplantation medicine has undergone considerable development over the last twenty years. Organs Transplantation has become a routine part of treatment and often the only option for patients with severe kidney damage. Due to the development of immunosuppressive drugs and the improvement of surgical techniques, the outcomes of kidney transplants have greatly improved in recent years. The bachelor thesis describes the issue of nursing care for patients after kidney transplantation. In the theoretical part of the thesis I describe the issue of treatment of renal failure. I also focus on the period before the transplant itself and after the transplant. I can't forget to mention the professional organizations dealing with this issue, so I also provide a short overview of transplantation centres' in the Czech Republic. At the end of this section I present a very important part namely, patient education. Each patient needs to know what regimen in the homecare environment is to be followed so that transplantation is successful. The thesis I worked out on the basis of searching for relevant sources on the topic. I used resources from the National Medical Library, where I was made a literature search, through Medlain, from the Pub Med, Embase and Web of Science databases. The information were...
